...and now for something totally different...

alright, so not quite. But this is a theme that may repeat itself...ice and water aren't mastered yet, so they're going to show up now and again...:)

I don't feel comfortable with the orca yet, as I don't draw them as frequently as say, bears...*love me bears* but theyre a gorgeous animal and fer sure. :)

I always thought orcas were beautiful before, but this piece is absolutely gorgeous. Though not perfect, the ice burgs and the colors and excellently well done. Everything is lovely :aww:

Oh thank you. Yeah, I was getting frustrated with the orca...and as patience isn't my virtue, I hurried through the rest of it...but thank you. :)

My original idea was to use a less vibrant color...a greyer blue...:)

Oh, because of the setting of it, against the ice?

Yeah, but the more vibrant color lent...well...a little more life, I think. :)

I like it! It has a sort of clay-ish feeling.

:D It reminded me of those illustrations in some children's books, like when they use clay or even candy and frosting. I love those.

Admittedly, clay is not my forte. :) I'll bet you'd come up with something...:D

Oh, I bet you'd get it to go your way. I've actually never tried clay. Maybe a "flat" sort of illustration....hmmm.

Thank you. I love the color of ice in a glacier...it's rather based on that.
Thank you for faving it.

I am so in love with your sceneries :)
But well, since you're trying to improve, I think this isn't quite something to improve, it's just about more time of blending on the ice and snow deepest on the picture :aww:
I really love the orca and the lightning. Orcas and polar bears are of the most amazing animals!

I appreciate the suggestions tremendously, thank you! Someone else on this side agreed with you, too. :)
They are, truly.

Wow, I love this. The viewpoint is wonderful, as is the colour and depth of the water and iceburgs. Nice job!

I do see what you mean about the Orca. Its head is a bit odd, like its caught between a front-on and a sideways angle, not quite one or the other and it comes out across as a bit odd. Not bad, just a bit strange. :) But the play of the light/water on him and the wet of his upper dorsal is very nicely done. :)

I'd definitely like to see more of this type!

Thank you. :)

Yeah, I wish I understood orca anatomy better. :( Do like Robert Bateman would do, and make models of the animals he would paint...that's what I shoulda done, but oh well...

Well, like I said before, I do have a whale sitting in the wings...:)

Oh is that how he does it? Cheater. :D (kidding!) Actually its a good idea and somewhat more. . .appealing than Beatrix Potter's version of it. Apparently she kept dead animals she found (found! not killed!) and kept them frozen, then would let them thaw a bit pose them and draw them. Eww. Although, thats logically sound. I suppose, in her defence, she didn't have a computer either. lol But still, it seems like all the 'greats' of art seem to have their various methods to get things right. I've talked to artists at fairs too who will actually paint from pictures. They don't do it from imagination at all, except to remove things and make them look a bit better.

So I think, if you're doing yours from the head, you're doing awesomely. :)

Well, for that matter, so does Bateman. :D
And, depending on the subject, I'll paint from pictures, too. I've got literally dozens of reference photos I've taken myself.
And only somethings come from my head...(brainlint, most often. :) )
