Family reflections by Hagge Family reflections by Hagge
This is the first time I have tried to do a portrait using the digital approach.
This is taken from a photo, and the family was kind enough to allow me to post it. It may come down at a later date.
I was intrigued with not only the baby, and the softness of the light on her, but with the parents reflected in the glass in back...this was a very complicated picture for me to do.

Yay! D'ye think so? This was tough...I actually started it some time ago, and kept running into problems with the shading on her...I should just take it down and work it out to my satisfaction.
And thanks. :D

I might put some shadows to the edge of her arms and legs, 'cuz somehow it looks like you cut and pasted a pic about her into the darker bg. And with the darker limbs you could turn the attention to her -brighter- face.
The bg is really nice, I wish I could draw something like that:o My favs are those umbrellas in the sunshine. That part of the pic is really um... dinamic with the light effects:)
Keep up your good job, man:hug:

I wondered if I should have, even though there wasn't any dark shadow on her arms. I wish I could show you the photogragh of it. There really aren't any strong shadows on her at all, even though she was in shadow. Maybe that's why...but you got me thinking...maybe if I had used warmer colors on her arms, instead....hmmmm....
Thank you very much. :D

Why thank you! It was difficult, because digital doesn't handle like paints...and trying to get the baby to look like her photo...^^;

Aw thanks. I should have spend more time on it, but it was driving me crazy.
Question: do you think I should have added more shadow to the baby? There wasn't much in the photo at all...she wasn't quite "glowing", but there was hardly any shadow even though she was in the shadow....

You're welcome. It puts me in mind of Renoir, to tell the truth...
Actually, I've been around office buildings and the like with windows like that, so I know that they have an effect of cutting themselves off from the environment in front of them. A few more shadows, or even if you "invent" a pattern of leafy partial shade on the baby might look nice, though.

However, if one pays attention to her reflection behind her, none of that is really necessary, in my opinion.

Oh thanks...:)
I like the leaf-pattern idea, except that she's in shadow...she had one of those peaches and cream complexions, and you know how translucent babies skin is...:O that was one of the difficult parts...

:D
^^; I know, that's why I suggested inventing the leaves. I guess you could say they'd be breaking up the shadow. Mm-hmm, although that same translucent quality can make bruises and the like stand out more, which makes for interesting detail. (some babies are so delicate that they can bruise their face by sleeping on their arm)

Yes...but that's given me some thought...I'll have to go dink with it then, and see what I come up with...:D

Yeah, poor tiny things...
Sadly, I have to take off here...my presence is hereby requested and I must "hear and obey" :X I hate busy Saturdays..

Have fun with it above all!

:sad nod: They're all very good about it, though. Tough little buggers.

Aw. Okay, I'll just have to wait until I get to talk to you again. :bye:
