Cousins by Hagge Cousins by Hagge
100 Theme Challenge ~ #46 family*
*An attempt to catch up on another project*

During the rainy season in fall, these mushrooms pop up in specific and sometimes unexpected places!
The original idea was to portray a couple of class of mushrooms; the amanita panthera, and its cousin the amanita muscaria, and then my Muse hit me upside the head with her Spiffy-Idea wand:(which hurt like heck!) Why not make them people, instead? So I did...I present to you Amanita Panthera and her cousin Amanita Muscaria...
(it's also a shameless ploy to show off the very simplistic design I struggled to create in photoshop following a magazine tutorial )

They look fabulous. I can see what you mean when you say you kept the colours matching the murshrooms... Definitely a great concept, and not your usual stuff!

I love it, your faces are getting more beautiful each time. :)

Their faces are striking and beautiful! And the magazine cover.....-ness makes me want to see an interview with them. ;) Amanita Muscaria has always (rather creepily) been one of my favorite fungi, so maybe that helps me love this even more.

You've gotten even better at depicting human faces, too. Their expressions are both deceptively neutral, but each is still packed with lovely je ne sais quois.

Oh thanks...I have to admit, I used a couple of models from a magazine, but their expressions were perfectly blank. I wanted (and added) something with a LITTLE more life to it, erased their eyebrows and recolored their eyes....mushrooms or no...:D And their hairstyle IS my own...I also tried to copy the colors of the actual mushrooms themselves in their skin and hair color...why they're so pale...

It worked well. :D I didn't even think about the lack of eyebrows, it really works! Muscaria's hair makes me think of Medusa, too. You really put a lot into this.
