Love love! Very nicely done. Of course, whats not to love? Snow, big black horse that looks like a Friesian, sorta. All it needs is me, on its back! Hah!
Small critique, the tips of the two branches over his shoulder look a little odd with the brownness and the way the hoarfrost on them just seems to stop. Might have been better to just stick with the frost there, instead of trying to make the wood show through. (At least that's what I'm guessing you were doing, and having a little trouble with the dark wood against the black?)
Otherwise? Love love LOVE. Going into my favourites for sure.
I see what you're saying, and I appreciate the input. It was along the lines of the horse having brushed into them and knocked the snow off, but I should have made that more obvious. I wanted to get this in before Christmas.
: ) Yeah, I sort of guessed that might have been the idea behind that, and it can't be easy adding shading/texture to thin little twiggies like that! You don't get a lot of room to experiment. (And, really, twigs that thin aren't going to have a ton of shading on them!) And yeah, if you're like me. . .the deadlines don't help. I end up going too fast and not taking the care I should. I still think you did a fabulous job and that horse really makes me want him. It'd be nice to slip onto his back and take a quiet ride. Cold outside, maybe, but he'd be warm!
Gorgeous! You really caught the soft sheen of light off the coat, even the bits of different colors - smooth black and hint of blue, plus the stray bits of sable when its caught in direct light. So realistic!
